Alone At Last
Everyone needs a place they to escape to. The thought of being alone can be both alarming and serene. Often, it is where peace is found. Sometimes, the imagination makes it scarier than it really is. For me, it’s a place to be content. When I am alone, it gives me a chance to avoid stress, look back on my life, clear my mind, and just simple be. This feeling comes to me in a certain environment. That is within nature. Its beauty captures me and sends me off to beyond the rainbow. It’s the alone time I have to think about anything and everything. No one is around to judge me or question me, and the squirrels and butterflies certainly won’t. This is my peaceful place.
Picture this: in the quiet, misty morning, the stream is trickling over the stones in the riverbed. It makes a soft noise as if flows gently around the bend, and far off into the future. Its path is set. Birds are chirping, creating their own tunes and melodies, as they build their nests for the summer, only to vacate them for the winter. The wind, blowing gently, provides a breeze to cool off the air, forming a tender whoosh as it blows over the trees. The sun is just beginning to peek over the hill, as its light spreads and parts the fog from itself, opening up the vast land and exposing its beauty. As the daylight greets the flowers, I can smell the roses and daffodils blooming on the bank of the river. It’s a sweet scent, like a fresh spring morning with the dew still on the grass, and shadows still hiding the garden untouched by sunshine. Cars, buildings, roads, houses, and plazas, or any other forms of human society are nowhere to be found. I’m alone, surrounded by the enchanting sound of nature, and nothing else. I am content. This is where my escape is. It is my happy place. Unfortunately, this place merely exists within my mind, and I have yet to discover a place just like it. But a backup is necessary. My reinforcement to find serenity is to listen to music. Decent music. Respectable music. Moral music. Not the inappropriate or offensive music, but the upbeat, friendly music, like some of today’s greatest hits. When I listen to music, I get the same feeling I have when I think of my happy place. I think about the world and reflect on myself. I look back on the past and forward into the future. I am free to think, surrounded by my passion. That is why I want to continue my education in music, because it makes me feel better about myself and about my life. Surrounded in this environment, I feel complete.
I am alone, a safe alone, immersed in the music, in its peace, love, hope, happiness, serenity. Music is my safe haven, my foundation, my passion. Here, I am content, and most importantly, free.
